What Will I Learn on this Course?
The skills of producing descriptive, analytical and persuasive writing are also developed.
There is an emphasis on improving written accuracy, where necessary.
Towards the end of the course there will be an increased emphasis on preparation for the exam, studying the pre-released materials and practising the different styles and forms of writing required. This will include studying media texts and literature written in English but from other cultures.
Course Content and Method of Assessment
You will be required to write about some of the passages that you have studied before the exam, in a variety of styles and forms. There is great emphasis on your ability to write clear, accurate and fluent English appropriate to the audience and purpose of the piece.
There are two tiers of entry, Foundation and Higher and it is possible to gain grade C on either. Your appropriate tier of entry will be decided, with you, at a late stage of the course.
After the Course
Every year many GCSE re-takers begin A level or OCR/BTEC National courses. Some even choose to study English at A level!
Whether you are aiming for Further Education or Higher Education, or for employment, you will find GCSE English is a valued and even essential qualification.
Most students taking this course improve their current grade, many achieving a grade C or B.
Subject Combinations
GCSE English can be combined with almost any of the other subjects in College, whether as part of an all-GCSE programme, or with an Advanced pattern of study.
