Course Overview
GCSE English Language is a coursework and exam based qualification which will allow you to pursue your individual interests. The course will help you with your confidence when it comes to expressing yourself both on the page and verbally and it will open doors for the rest of your life. This qualification is successful at encouraging independence and initiative.
The course is divided into three units; coursework, speaking and listening, and exam.
The course work unit will require you to carry out independent research on a topic of your choice. This research will be turned into a piece of writing that can come under a number of generic styles, such as newspaper articles, speeches, or letters. You will be given one to one guidance at several points to ensure that you produce work to the best of your ability.
The speaking and listening task will require you to deliver a presentation on a topic of your choice to your peers.
The exam unit will allow you to practise your close-reading techniques on a variety of genres, as well as testing your writing skills. You will learn how to write creatively, persuasively, and informatively under timed conditions.
