Course programme

GCSE Italian

Course Aims:
To develop an understanding of spoken and written foreign language in a range of contexts.
Develop a knowledge and understanding of the grammar of the language and the ability to apply it.
To develop a knowledge and understanding of countries where the language is spoken.
To develop positive attitudes to learning and provide a foundation for further study and practical use.

Course Content:
With an emphasis on communicaiton and the practical application of language skills, the following topics are studied; personal identity, including family, hobbies, home environment and routine. Travel, tourism, holidays and services, inlcuding transport and shopping.
Home life, healthy living, work and leisure. Relationships, environment education and careers. Topics will be studied through course books and information provided by the teacher, from newspaper and magazine artices, TV, video, radio and on-line resources.

Progression:
From this level it is possible to progress to OCN Level 3 Unit or to AS/As Advanced Study.

Awarding Body:
AQA

Exam:
The skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening are tested, at either Foundation or Higher Level, in tests at the end of the year. As an alternative to the written paper, it is possible to write three pieces of coursework.
