GCSE Revision - English

To help prepare for the terminal exam; they will be shown good examination techniques. In addition, they will benefit from the practice of Higher or Foundation Tier papers.

Core content

• Practice at examination papers & questions

The course will focus on these core areas:

Reading and comparing non-fiction texts
We will read a variety of non-fiction and media texts and focus on
the techniques required to attempt successful answers to questions
in the exam. We will consider what an examiner is looking for at
each grade level.

Writing to persuade, argue and advise
We will focus on the specific skills required to write in each style
and work at developing the correct approach for answering each
question confidently.

Reading and comparing poetry
We will analyse and revise the poetry of various poets

Writing to explain, inform and describe
As with paper 1, we will focus on the specific skills required for
writing in each style; attempting to identify a student's strengths
and weaknesses and then working to achieve his/her full potential.
