Course programme

From the stories of 'Goodbye Columbus' to the American Trilogy of 'American Pastoral', 'I Married a Communist' and 'The Human Stain' to 'Everyman' and other late novels, we explore Roth's long and varied literary career.

We will discuss the many themes in Roth's books, including sexuality, religion, racism, identity and the condition of life itself.

A mixture of lecture, discussion and reading in large and small groups.
