This course is taught jointly with the Department of Geography. The modules offered are a carefully selected combination of geographic and town planning topics, offering insights into the processes, policies and practices operating in urban and rural areas.

If you're interested in studying abroad, there are opportunities for you to spend part of your course in another country such as the USA, Denmark, France or Italy.

About this course

Most of our graduates go on to work in planning or a related career in the built environment professions, including housing, transport planning, development control, forward planning, regeneration, urban design, heritage and conservation.

Employers include private and public sector organisations such as Jones Lang LaSalle, Birmingham City Council, Arup and Network Rail. More than half of our graduate planners take up posts with planning consultancies and several are employed by major global built environment firms.

The types of roles our students enter into in their first year after graduating include Graduate Planner, Environmental Advisor, Property Analyst, Renewable Energy Project Officer, Planning Consultant, Regeneration Project Officer, Chartered Surveyor and Strategic Land Buyer.
