Course Content:
AS Level:

Unit 6471 - Changing landforms and their management. This unit covers geographical processes and issues in the coastal and fluvial (riverine) environments.

Unit 6472 - Managing change in Human environments. This unit covers the changing geographies of both rural and urban environments.
Unit 6473 - Environmental investigation (coursework). This unit is an individual piece of coursework undertaken by the candidate which involves fieldwork and data analysis on a particular geographical issue.

A2 Level:

Unit 6474 - Global challenge. This unit looks at atmospheric processes, ecosystems, global population and migration, globalisation and the global economy.

Unit 6475 - Researching global futures. This unit has two assessment components: one is a researched coursework report and the second is a written assessment. A number of options can be taken from: Environments and resources, living with hazardous environments, pollution of natural environments, wilderness environments, development and disparity, feeding the world's people, health and welfare, the geography of sport and leisure.

Unit 6476 - Synoptic unit: Issues analysis based upon decision making skills which combines physical, human and environmental geography.

Teaching Learning Methods:
A variety of methods will be employed ranging from primary data collection in fieldwork from a variety of urban and rural areas, independent library research, note making and student activities

Key Skills:
Key skills will be delivered within the course, mainly during the AS level. Emphasis on application of number will be made on the environmental investigation. This will also be presented using information technology and will allow these key skills to be developed. Communication key skills will be developed throughout the course.

Assessment:
AS: This will be based on two written exams and one piece of coursework.

A2: Level will be based upon two exams and one piece of coursework.

Cost:
The residential fieldtrip in the AS level will cost approximately £150.

Progression:
Advanced level Geography is a suitable subject to lead into many areas of Higher Education.
