Our Geography MA, MSc course provides you with an excellent foundation in advanced Geography. The

The MA pathway concentrates on human geography, including environment and development, environmental policies and politics, geopolitics, urbanisation and globalisation.
The MSc focuses on physical geography, particularly modules available on the Environmental Monitoring, Modelling & Management course.

Courses are divided into modules. You will normally take:
- MSc – modules totalling 180-190 credits
- MA – modules totalling 180-190 credits

Required Modules Geography MAYou are required to take the following modules:
- Practising Social Research (20 credits)
- Dissertation in MA Geography (60 credits)
If you are taking the part-time course, you should plan to take the required taught module Practising Social Research in your first year and the dissertation in your second year.
Geography MSc
You are required to take the following modules:
- Methods for Environmental Research (20 credits)
- Dissertation in MSc Geography (60 credits)
If you are taking the part-time course, you should plan to take the required taught module Methods for Environmental Research in your first year and the dissertation in your second year.
Optional ModulesGeography MA
In addition, you are required to bring your credits total for the course to 180-190 from a wide range of optional modules that may typically include:
- Environmental Remote Sensing (20 credits)
- Modelling Environmental Change at the Land Surface (20 credits)
- Monitoring Environmental Change (20 credits)
- Environmental Actors & Politics (20 credits)
- Tourism, Conservation & the Environment (20 credits)
- Up to 20 credits from Level 7 modules offered by other departments or institutes outside of Geography, subject to approval
