What will I learn?
You will be taught by well qualified staff in modern, well-equipped classrooms. The lessons will be conducted in German using methods that are familiar to you from GCSE: individual, pair and group work activities, work with audio and video materials and language games. You will also attend a weekly conversation class with the College's German language assistant.
The courses are structured around language topics which follow on from GCSE and which offer an insight into the culture and society of the German-speaking world.
AS topics: The Family and Relationships, Healthy Living, Popular Culture and the Media.
A2 topics: The Environment, Multicultural Society in German, Contemporary Social Issues and two Cultural topics, which allow for the study of German language literature and cinema.
What Makes a good German student?
You will need to be enthusiastic, well-motivated and prepared to put the language to use in all of the lessons. You will be expected to spend time outside lessons completing homework tasks and working independently to develop your skills. You should have an interest in German culture and society
Which other courses link well with this subject?
You can combine German with any other subject offered at KGV but popular and successful subjects taken by past students include: French, Spanish, Modern History, English, Law, Economics and Business Studies.
Future Opportunities
Studying German will give you valuable skills for all educational courses and areas of employment. Most of our students go on to university, many to study German on its own or as part of a combined degree with another modern foreign language or a subject such as Law or Business Studies.
Is there anything else I need to know?
Did you know that, in British industry, employees who speak foreign languages earn more than those who do not!
