About this course

Anyone who has a basic grasp of German and would like to increase their knowledge and understanding of the German language and culture.

You will need to have completed the Get started and Post Beginners German courses or equivalent of 40 hours learning.

Course programme

How will I learn?

By doing a range of listening and speaking activities, tasks and games. You can expect to carry out a range of speaking practice to develop your confidence in these skills in a range of situations. You will work in pairs, small groups and individually. You will be encouraged to carry out some activities on-line.

How will my progress be monitored and assessed?

Your tutor will carry out continual assessment through a range of activities. You will build up a portfolio of evidence, including a recording of your voice in German. There is not an external exam with this course.

Progression opportunities

Yes; German conversation at level 2. Your tutor will give you further information about appropriate progression routes.

What equipment or materials will I need to provide?

Paper and folder, a paper or electronic dictionary will be useful. Further information about this and other suggested resources will be given by your tutor at the beginning of the course.

What other support is available?

Help with numeracy or literacy is available. ICT drop-in sessions are available during term time and are open to all learners. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. Learner Support Funding is available for equipment, childcare and travel to learners who qualify.
