This course aims to develop your ability to competently draw what you see. Week by week we will explore a range of drawing skills that will result in a portfolio of your work accompanied by written reflective commentary. This will include the following: drawing to scale, creating the impression of three dimensions through shading teqhniques and how composition can improve your drawing skills.

About this course

This course is suitable for anyone who is new to art who would like to learn to draw.

No previous knowledge is required. You should be dexterous (able to hold and use equipment).

Course programme

How will I learn?

Through practical lessons, demonstrations and one-to-one tuition you will create finished drawings.

How will my progress be monitored and assessed?

You will be continually monitored and assessed by your tutor and you will produce a portfolio of sketches/drawings.

Advice will be given by your tutor.

What equipment or materials will I need to provide?

You should bring the following to the first session:
A pad of A4 drawing paper,
2B pencil, eraser, pencil sharpener.
Your tutor will give you a list of materials to buy for the rest of the course (likely cost: £10 in total).

What other support is available?

Help with numeracy or literacy is available. ICT drop-in sessions are available during term time and are open to all learners. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. Learner Support Funding is available for equipment, childcare and travel to learners who qualify. For further details please ask when enrolling.
