If you have a passion for colour and contemporary textiles, this course will introduce processes and materials for painting fabrics in very simple ways. You will learn how to develop your ideas through drawing and painting and how to develop your research drawings into designs for printed textiles. The course will look at pattern, form, colour, design and repeats. The techniques are suitable to create work for use as wall-pieces and hangings, cloth for clothing or any other use.

The course will suit someone who is relatively new to fabric painting as well as those looking to expand their knowledge. It is important to note these courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity.

Course programme
How will I learn?
A structured start is followed by guided independent practice. Group discussions and reviews will be integral to the course. PowerPoint presentations and video clips will also be utilised. Handouts will be provided with more information and methods used.
How will my progress be monitored and assessed?
Progress will be monitored on a weekly basis and one-to-one discussions between the tutor and yourself. You will build up a portfolio of sample work.

What equipment or materials will I need to provide?
Tutor will provide some fabric dye and fabrics. You will need to bring the following: Palette, water pot, various size paint brushes, A4 painting paper, acrylics or watercolour. Your tutor will advise you further as you progress with projects.
What other support is available?
Help with numeracy or literacy is available. ICT drop-in sessions are available during term time and are open to all learners. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. Learner Support Funding is available for equipment, childcare and travel to learners who qualify.
