You will access information using a range of resources including oral information, family records, parish records and other historical documents. Useful web sites will also be explored. You will visit a family history library in order to gain some practical research skills. variety of teaching and learning approaches including individual tuition and support, group work, independent research and lectures.

About this course
Anyone who is interested in finding out about family history and how to trace their family tree.
No prior knowledge required.It is recommended that you have the ESOL Skills for Life Entry Level 3 Certificate or a good level of numeracy and literacy – as you will need to read handouts and produce a portfolio of work. You should also be dexterous (able to hold and use equipment).Learn about resources to use in order to trace your family history and where to find them. What equipment or materials will I need to provide?
Pen, paper and file. There will be an opportunity to look at your own family history material so any information you have will be useful. Your tutor will advise on this as the course progresses. There are some costs involved in obtaining records as part of your own research such as fees for birth, marriage and death certificates (approx £10 per certificate).
What other support is available?
Help with numeracy or literacy is available. ICT drop-in sessions are available during term time and are open to all learners. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. Learner Support Funding is available for equipment, childcare and travel to learners who qualify.
