Emagister adds to its catalog the Master in Global Design, which is intended for students who are interested in pursuing a career in a global society that sees design as a holistic practice.

The borders between the different design disciplines are fading and design teams are now multidisciplinary. The profile of the Global Designer, as someone who is able to understand the complexity, organise strategies and lead multidisciplinary teams, is therefore becoming increasingly necessary.

The growing social commitment to cultural, ethical and environmental aspects has traditionally been ignored but institutions and companies are now demanding professionals who can develop strategies to respond to these new needs. The Master in Global Design focuses on education in project development, in which the Design Thinking methodology is applied to resolve complex situations.

Global Design centres around the logic of the reproducible, bringing together the individual aspects that make up the criterion and making it possible to understand what it makes sense to produce and why. In this master’s course the students explore and develop what the mainstream of the discipline is implementing but they also look beyond its borders to discover and rediscover fields in which viewpoints that are on the point of becoming lost can be rescued, innovative minorities that can be the foundation stones for the paradigms of the future and hybridised professions that appear to be contradictory.

About this course

- To think actively in order for the students to be the official authors of their own thoughts, to keep on track during the complex processes of collecting data and creating rigorous, creative personal strategies to underpin projects.

- To do things in order to acquire the tools that will permit one to rapidly provide a physical, aesthetic and intuitive response to complex problems that are outside purely rational understanding.

- To project in order to apply creative logic and strategies to a complex, long-term process, from data collection to the creation of something new, different and better.

- To listen actively and critically to the suggestions and experiences of well-known professionals in order to include them in their own reference map, which is constructed throughout the master’s course based on the student’s selected affinities.

- To communicate in order to explain, get across and convince. To convey their proposals efficiently to users, clients, institutions and companies and in the end to a society that is not always predisposed to change.

Applicants for the Master in Global Design should present a portfolio with their work. After having evaluated the portfolio, the prospective students will have a personal interview with the coordinators.

Course programme

To achieve the objectives of the master’s course, four types of methodology will be used:

A short workshop, one session per week: Knowledge and skills will be provided. They are related to a specific area using short explanations and practical exercises so that students acquire the tools that will permit them to implement the different stages of global projects

Long workshop, two intensive weeks: Short, intensive projects in which the students will test and develop their ability to respond quickly and in a non-linear manner to unexpected proposals.

Lectures, active listening, one session per week: Talks in which professionals from various disciplines will offer their view of contemporary problems related to the topics of the master’s course. The sessions will be complemented by debates or exercises that will allow the students to look in depth at each of the issues discussed in order to form a range of content that the students will need to process. The final objective is to construct a document that includes what has been learned and reflects the personal vision of each student.

Master’s Project: A long-term project in which the students will confront the different stages and difficulties of the creative process by applying the knowledge and tools acquired in the workshops and lectures that will take place in parallel with the content that is of use during each stage.
