How will we meet the world's changing needs for energy? The global energy industry faces challenges from growing demand in developing economies, alternative sources of supply, climate change, regulation and energy security. The Warwick Global Energy MBA will help you make the right decisions and overcome these challenges.
Visionary managers require a broader understanding of this global industry than ever before. What will be the complex mix of energy we will use in the future? How will the changing roles of companies and institutions across the world evolve? How will regulation and politics affect investment and growth?
We're bringing together people from a wide range of sectors involved in the energy industry, combining their experience with the teaching of our world-leading business school.
The Warwick Global Energy MBA consists of a series of nine core and four elective modules, followed by a 15,000 word consulting project for a sponsoring organisation.
It is delivered over three years through a combination of week-long residential seminars and blended learning. This enables you to develop your skills while remaining in the workplace, combining the flexibility of part-time study with the benefits of interactive learning. The modular structure also allows you plan for your attendance well ahead and makes it particularly suitable if your work involves a considerable amount of travelling or you are based overseas
Study programme

  • Part-time: modular and blended learning over 3 years
  • 9 core modules using energy industry examples
  • 4 energy specific elective modules
  • 15-20,000 word management consultancy project

Our study programme allows you to be part of a highly experienced peer group exploring public and private institutions across the industry and across the world. Throughout our programme, you will be required to think of the energy industry overall. You will view it as an integrated industry operating within a combination of physical, commercial, regulatory, and political frameworks. We will help you understand the roles you and your company play in the industry overall, achieving both business objectives and society's goals.
You will take a broad look at all the stakeholders involved in the energy industry. This includes:

  • Traditional and alternative sources of energy
  • Generation and distribution companies
  • Retailers
  • Consumers and energy-consuming industries
  • Trading and financial institutions
  • Technology, design, construction, and consulting companies
  • Policy-makers and regulators.

Our core modules cover the management disciplines of the Warwick MBA, refocused on the energy industry. They bring together theories and experience gained across all industries, with specific examples and challenges from the energy industry.
There are two higly focused core modules only available to the Warwick Global Energy MBA. One looks at the industry overall; the other considers the role played by policy-makers and regulators.
We know the challenges of balancing study with work and personal commitments. Our programme structure reflects our world-leading experience in providing flexible learning at a distance while maximising the value from the time spent with colleagues and the faculty here at WBS.
Our modules are taught through blended learning, using a combination of structured work books, online materials, collaborative online work and seminars, plus intensive face-to-face residential sessions here at WBS. Modules are taken in pairs, so you will study two subjects in parallel.
Some modules extend for a 14 week period with a single day seminar at WBS. Others run for 10 weeks with a 5-day seminar. This means the residential sessions at WBS combine teaching across two modules over the six days.

  • Management in the Global Energy Industry
  • Accounting & Financial Management
  • Organisational Behaviour
  • Economics of the Business Environment
  • Modelling & Analysis for Management
  • Operations
  • Market Analysis
  • Business Policy and Regulation in the Global Energy Industry

Our elective modules allow you explore in more depth the areas of the energy industry which interest you. You may choose up to four modules from our energy-specific selection.

  • Sustainability & the Low Carbon Economy
  • Energy Trading & Risk Management
  • Corporate Citizenship & CSR
  • Innovation & Alternative Energy Technologies

All electives will be delivered via blended learning over 12 weeks. As with the core modules, electives are run parallel in pairs. There is a 2.5 day residential session for each elective offering you the chance of a focused, five day period of study at WBS for each pair of electives.
If you want to focus on a different area with a cross-industry perspective, you can swap up to two of your energy-specific elective modules for two modules from the wide range of electives offered by the Warwick MBA.
Your management consultancy project is a vital part of our study programme. Whilst you will address current work issues both in the classroom and as part of your ongoing assignments, the culmination of your MBA is the final project and dissertation. Academically, it tests your ability to apply your learning to real management issues. Professionally, it may well open the door to your next promotion.
You will work with your company and a member of the WBS faculty on an agreed strategic issue. For some participants, a project that benefits their business will be a key element of their company's decision to support their studies.
