Debates concerning Islam and its impact on global politics has come to dominate the contemporary political
landscape. Phenomenon such as the Iranian revolution, rise of the Taliban, Al Qaeda, ISIS and the powerful re-
emergence and expansion of the classical conception of the Caliphate in Islamic discourse and movement has
mystified the western secular mindset in its attempts to comprehend this rising appeal as per a notion of religion
built on the Western experience with Christianity and its notions of modernity. This short short interactive lecture course aims to provide an understanding of the mindset upon which Islam and politics has been fused and its role in contemporary Islamic thought and movement.
