This module explores the theme of myths and legends in classical art through relevant works in the British Museum and a visit to the National Gallery which will consider the appearance of classical myths in post classical art. The Module will focus on important themes, myths and legends and their manifestation in the visual arts. We will discuss and assess their popularity in art and society as well as considering the role of myths and legends in the Classical world.

- Relate the origins and development of classical myths and their representation in classical Greek art
- Identify and evaluate the main function, meaning and purpose of myths and legends in classical art and classical society.
- Participate in discussions around the use of classical myths in post classical art and consider their ongoing popularity in western culture.

Off-Site - 9 sessions at the British Museum and one in the National Gallery so there will be walking around the collection and some standing around during our discussions. There will be some hand-outs and activities to encourage student involvement and participation.
