Sydney Law School offers one of the nation’s leading postgraduate programs in health and medical law. The Graduate Diploma in Public Health Law (GradDipPubHL) provides a specialist postgraduate qualification focusing on laws and legal strategies for protecting and promoting public health.



The GradDipPubHL consists of two core units and two optional units. Graduates from either diploma may apply to upgrade to the Master of Health Law (MHL). Those with a particular interest in public health law may enrol in the GradDipPubHL, or choose public health elective units within the MHL.



Postgraduate study in health law is of benefit to people working in a wide range of professional areas, including legal practice, the medical profession, nursing and the allied health care professions, government, health administration and professional and statutory bodies.



Subject to meeting progression requirements, you can apply to transfer to the Master of Health Law.

Study plan

Candidates for the Graduate Diploma in Public Health Law complete 24 credit points, which is equivalent to 4 units of study. There are two compulsory units of study, Critical Issues in Public Health Law and New Directions in Public Health Law & Policy. Students without a law degree must also complete the units, Legal Reasoning & the Common Law System or Introduction to Law for Health Professionals. The remaining units of study are selected from a wide range of relevant electives.
