What can I progress to?
Art School
Higher Education
Employment
Graphic Design can be taken as part of a student's general package of qualifications and as such will show that they are creative and perceptive people.

Possible Subject Combinations
This course combines well with both A Level Art, Media or BTEC National Diploma in Art & Design.

Extra Curricular Activities
All students can add to their main programme of study by taking part in a wide range of clubs, groups, societies and courses. Not only are the activities fun, they also develop skills and provide new and fulfilling experiences, as well as enhancing applications to Higher Education and employment.

What is the course about?
This one to two-year course extends your drawing skills and introduces a variety of creative software. You will use a variety of approaches, media and techniques that are applicable to graphic design. This includes work on problem solving, visual language and graphic communication. Corporate identity, film title sequences, brochures, as well as general illustration and advertising will be explored. The syllabus aims to encourage a disciplined and experimental approach. Historical, contemporary contextual studies in Graphic Design are important elements of this course. This will support your practical work so that your responses show an understanding of different styles, genres and traditions.
Units are internally assessed and externally moderated. There is an externally-set exam at the end of AS and A2.
Integral parts of the course are staff-supervised visits made in your own time to galleries and museums.
If you wish to progress to the A2 Level, you must obtain a grade D or above at AS Level.

What are the course outcomes?

How will you be assessed?

AS Level: 2 projects and a 5 hour practical exam (to include 4 weeks preparatory work.)

A2 Level: 1 project thesis and independent study unit and a 15 hour practical exam (to include 6 weeks preparatory work).
