Course programme
BA (Hons) Graphic Design (Third Year Programme)
What will I study?
The programme has been structured to complement your existing knowledge and skills and to extend your intellectual and problem solving capabilities through design research and visual experimentation. Students are encouraged to develop an individual portfolio of work relevant to contemporary studio practice and this may take the form of print, illustration/editorial and corporate identity design, motion graphics and design for the web. The programme consists of a variety of core modules and students will be required to undertake a written Critical Studies report and a self-initiated Honours Project.
How is it assessed?
You will be assessed both individually and as a member of a team. There are a number of assessment methods which can include practical and research based coursework assignments, delivering seminar presentations, portfolio submissions, report writing, demonstrations and practical project work. At the beginning of each semester you will have lectures that will outline the deadlines, duration of assignments and assessments for that period. This will help you to plan your workload and manage your time effectively.
Future prospects?
On successful completion of this programme, students can enter a range of creative industries including design for print, design for the web; exhibition and conference design, or motion graphics. Career opportunities can be found in design consultancies and advertising design and self employment. Students can also progress on to postgraduate study at Masters Level and PGCE study for teaching.
