National Diploma in Art & Design Level 3

Course Aims:
The course aims to provide you with experience of a wide range of processes within the context of a problem-solving diagnostic programme of study.

Course Content:
You will investigate a series of subject areas, including:
Painting
Drawing
Fine art
3-Dimensional design (wood, metal and plastics)
Fashion/textiles
Surface pattern
Interior design
Graphic design/illustration
Animation
Advertising
Printmaking
Photography
Ceramics
Computer/electronic design
Contextual studies

Throughout the course, you will develop your skills in the use of software such as QuarkXPress, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and InDesign.

During the second year you will specialise in one of the following areas:
Graphic design/illustration
3-Dimensional design
Fashion and textiles
Fine art
Multi-disciplinary design

Progression:
The course will prepare you for your application to university to undertake related Art & Design courses, including BA (Hons) Fine Art that runs here at Southport College in partnership with Liverpool John Moores University.

Exam:
You will be continuously assessed throughout the course.

National Diploma in Art & Design

Duration:
Two years, full-time.
In addition to the courses full-time hours, you will also be expected to undertake approximately ten hours of independent study every week.
