Graphic Design: Essential Building Blocks

This course will introduce you to graphic design through the development of professional processes and skills. Taught through tutor presentations and hands on studio time, you will learn the building blocks of design so that you can create work you can be proud of.

You will engage with projects and learn the subtleties of design in order to expand your creativity and challenge the often disjointed nature of mainstream design.

As part of the course you will be asked to come up with hypothetical design proposals for three major brands- redesigning their advertisements, typography and aesthetics.

Course Outcomes

By the end of the course you should be able to:

• Understand and effectively use the elements of design
• Convey your enthusiasm, creativity, intellect, and practical skills through an engaging portfolio of design work
• Understand the importance of wit, creativity, and elegance in design

For the majority of the course the work will be practical and hands on but a small percentage will be computer based.

Beginner: Some familiarity with Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator.
