This Foundation year is a one year full cost course that will provide you with the underpinning skills and knowledge to progress onto the BA in Musical Instrument Craft (Guitar Making and Repair), preparing you for progression or employment.

About this course

You will need to demonstrate commitment to the subject and have some practical craft or woodworking experience. A good command of spoken and written English is also essential. The qualification is not available to learners from outside the UK/EU.

Course programme

You are introduced to the basic elements of guitar making and explore the skills, techniques and working practices required to build an instrument. Course work is 'hands-on' however you will also gain understanding of the theories associate with wind instrument construction. You will receive support with study skills in preparation for access to the BA course in Guitar Making and Repair. This one year course is, on its own, not sufficient to prepare for employment in the trade and is intended as an access course for the BA.
