This course is essential for all potential hairdressers as it provides the operative level skills required within professional salons.

You will develop your skills in the Define hairdressing salon including Cutting; Shampooing; Styling, Perming; Colouring; Client Consultation; Reception and Health and Safety.

Learners will need to purchase professional uniform. They will also need certain equipment and books. Detailed uniform and equipment lists and prices are available at interview. Individual Learners progression opportunities may require models to be found to demonstrate their hairdressing skills. All learners are expected to be involved in enrichment activities and visits

Key Skills at the appropriate level will form part of your final qualifications.

Additionality
All learners may have an opportunity to take a qualification to enhance their potential in unisex Hairdressing with Barbering units.

Learning Styles
The course is built up of equal parts of both practical and theory and requires the learner to research and develop their own learning. Theory sessions will provide essential knowledge required. IT facilities are available for use in the hairdressing base room and in the Learning Resource Centre.

Assessment Practical observation and assessment. Assignments, written and oral tests Mandatory end tests and the compilation of portfolios of evidence. Progression This course will prepare you for entry into employment in local, national or international salons. After at least one year's salon experience your tutor will advise you if you could progress to study the NVQ 3 Hairdressing. Work Experience Learners will work in our public hairdressing salons. It is also important for them to work in local salons at weekends whenever possible as any experience gained in this way can help them build up their skills and knowledge for course assessments.
