Aim

The aim of the course is to provide selected delegates with a basic underpinning knowledge of using, electrical, pneumatic and petrol hand held portable power tools in accordance with statutory legislation and without risk to health including minimising hand arm vibration within their working environment and to have successfully undertaken training and assessments specific to their power tools in use.
The training will also underpin any NVQ award and apprentice training that involves safe use of portable power tools etc.

Course Content / Aims and Objectives – Theory and Practical Skill Instruction

• Trainees will have an understanding of course aims and objectives.

• Have a clear understanding of their responsibilities under Health and Safety Law and other relevant legislation.

• Trainees should have an understanding of the safety rules applicable to portable power tools, correct use and maintenance etc.

• Testing and inspection of portable power tools.

• 240v and 110v electrical power tools.

• Understand what is HAVS (Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome).

• Types of fuel cells applicable to power tools.

• Personal Protective Clothing, types and correct use, inspection etc.

• Working methods and risk assessments to reduce HAVS (Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome) to workers.

• Safe working area and its risks.

• Housekeeping.

• Advantages and disadvantages of various portable power tools.

• Carry out full inspection of portable power tools, before, during and after use.

• Storage of power tools.

• Fault reporting.

• Hazards associated with portable power tools.

• Identify workplace hazards when using portable power tools.

• Electrical power tools.

• Pneumatic power tools.

• Petrol power tools.

• Combination power tools.

• Written / Theory Test

Instructors

Courses are carried out by our fully trained and accredited instructors and the training will be of a high quality standard throughout.

Location of Training

Training can be delivered on-site or off-site depending on customer requirements; however training delivered on-site will be more advantageous to the trainees as the training can be specific to their workplace activities.

Equipment

Must be in sound working order, efficient state and of good repair when being used for training on-site and to be made available when required for the practical aspects of the training, ideally in an area away from other normal day to day work activities.

Achievement Measurement

The training is carried out in accordance with an accredited awarding body and includes both theory and practical assessments leading to a nationally recognised qualification on successful completion as endorsed by the Health & Safety Executive.
