Hand Knitting for Beginners

This course is a fun introduction to hand knitting, with an emphasis on developing an experimental approach to your knitting.

Each week a different group of stitches will be covered. You will begin with a range of fundamental stitches before learning more complex techniques such as bobbles, shaping, cables, grafting and many more.

Needles and basic yarns will be provided, and you will also source your own experimental yarns, exploring colour, texture, gauge, composition and pattern as you learn about creating your own designs.

By the end of the course you will have completed a technical reference of all stitches learned, as well as having developed a portfolio of experimental swatches and understanding your own creative handwriting.

Lesson 1 Introduction, show and tell, basics - casting on, simple stitches, etc.

Lesson 2 Building up a portfolio of basic stitches. Increase and decrease

Lesson 3 Rib and moss stitch. Yarn sourcing

Lesson 4 Cables and Bobbles

Lesson 5 Designing swatches, composition, colour

Lesson 6 Initialising projects - individual tutorials

Lesson 7 Project development

Lesson 8 Project development
