This wide-ranging Diploma replaces Health and Social Care NVQ and covers the skills and knowledge needed to care for individuals in a variety of health or social care settings. This is the main qualification required by the Care Quality Commission in England and the Care Councils in Wales and Northern Ireland.

Course programme

It is flexible to suit all fields of health and social care. You can choose a pathway that suits your role - for example, working with people with a learning disability or people with dementia. The Diploma is made up of mandatory and optional units. Each unit is allocated a specified number of credits, depending on the size and level of difficulty. To achieve this qualification, candidates must achieve a minimum of 46 credits. 24 of these credits will be achieved by completing 9 mandatory units which reflect the Common Induction Standards for Health and Social Care and will cover areas such as: the role of a health and social care worker health and safety equality and inclusion personal development person centred approaches safeguarding and protection communication handling information duty of care The remaining 22 credits will be achieved by completing a range of option units which could cover things like: administering medication supporting people with disabilities helping people to eat and drink supporting people to live at home
