This module is aimed at increasing your understanding of the general principles of health promotion and how they may be applied to promoting bone health.
About this course
On completion of this course you should be able to:
Identify different approaches to health promotion and critically analyse the relevance for promoting healthy bones.
Critically review the concepts and methodologies employed within health promotion.
Identify opportunities to promote healthy bones and critically evaluate the impact within their clinical practice.
Demonstrate a critical informed understanding with regard to the practical application of health promotion principles, practices and evaluation within their own role.
All health professionals
You must hold a professional health care qualification and be eligible to register with the relevant professional board.
Students without a BA/BSc should be a health care professional and have a minimum of two years clinical experience in Osteoporosis, DXA, Falls
You will need to have completed the Theoretical Considerations in the Diagnosis & Management of Osteoporosis module prior to studying this module.

About this module
You will be introduced introduced to the basic concepts of health promotion and the methodologies used. It will enable you to identify how health promotion activities related to the health of bones may efficiently and effectively be incorporated into practice.
You will be encouraged to identify health promotion activities as integral to your work, rather than as an adjunct to it and to critically evaluate current theory and practice. Key issues including effective communication, facilitating informed decisions and motivation and ethical considerations arising in this context will be included.
