About this course

As this module is part of an HNC/D qualification, you are required to be over 18 years of age and have the following qualifications: Two A Levels – preferably in maths or science OR BTec certificate or diploma in engineering or a related discipline - Mature students will be considered in light of relevant work/life experience - Non-EU students are required to have an IELTS or equivalent university qualification

Studying this module will enable you to: Select and apply safe working procedures to engineering operations Understand the nature and use of current health and safety legislation Analyse engineering activities for the assessment of risk Manage and minimise risk to life, property and engineering activities within an industrial environment What skills will I gain? By studying this course you will: Develop an understanding of health and safety planning, implementation and legislation within an engineering environment Gain awareness of the principles, planning and implementation of health and safety practice within a range of industrial environments Learn how to select, apply and evaluate safe working procedures, for operations appropriate to particular industrial activities Gain knowledge of current UK and EU health and safety legislation and codes of practice Understand the role of the health and safety inspectorate and safety audits Learn how to assess, evaluate and record risk Learn how to gather and disseminate information Learn how to comply with current regulations and implement policy How will I be assessed? This is an assignment-based course and there are no exams. You will be continually assessed throughout the course via assignments and the production of a detailed portfolio What can I do next?
