About this course

A minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grade C or above, a First Diploma in Health & Social Care (Merit or above), or an NVQ Level 2 in Care. Mature students can gain entry to the course based on appropriate previous experience in a care setting. All candidates will be interviewed and take an Initial Assessment.

Course Level 3

Description
The course provides a thorough background for employment, training and education in a wide range of social care professions at all levels. It places an emphasis on the vocational aspects. Work experience, visits and vocationally qualified staff combine to provide an interesting but challenging programme. This course is equivalent to three A levels.

Course Length
2 years (full time).

What will I study?
A variety of different care topics will be covered and include; anatomy & physiology, psychology, sociology, health education, health & safety and communication. You will also learn functional skills which are English, Maths and ICT as required.

How will I learn?
Classroom sessions will provide academic knowledge and an opportunity to take part in practical work. You will also complete a weekly work placement to develop your skills in working with people in a health or social care setting. An individual learning plan will also be developed for you to ensure that all your learning needs are met.

How will I be assessed?
Written assignments, presentations, group work, practical skills and workplace assessment are used to monitor learning, with an element of external assessment.

Where could it lead?
A wide variety of career opportunities within the Health & Care sector including, Social Work, Nursing, Mental Health Support, Midwifery, Physiotherapy and the Probation Service, dependant on the courses taken. Higher Education programmes are also an option.
