Aims:

This training course includes self-study, training at Upkeep and an exam.
Successful completion of this day leads to a Certificate to confirm that Candidates have successfully demonstrated their competence in assessing properties for the HHSRS.

1. Self-study Programme

Delegates will be given materials for self study. Delegates will carry out inspections of two dwellings, completing a report covering the condition, a hazard analysis, and then produce a hazard rating with full justifications for a minimum of 4 hazards. Guidance will be given on how the report should be set out. Completed reports must be sent in to Upkeep (electronically or hard copy) within a stated time period before the second day to allow marking.

2. Training at Upkeep - 10 a.m. to 2.30 p.m.

• A detailed look at applying the HHSRS to four key hazards: cold, falls on steps and stairs, entry by intruders and fire.

• Detailed review of the Government’s worked examples and practical case studies.

• How the decisions of the Residential Property Tribunal are influencing the application of the system.

• How different organisations are applying the HHSRS to determine the impact of their stock on their tenants.

• An opportunity to hear the general experiences of delegates with the inspection and hazard rating of a chosen dwelling.

• Four delegates will be asked to present their assessments.

3. Practical Assessment leading to Certificate

A two-and-a-half-hour exam, including practical work

Successful completion of this training programme and exam will lead to a
Certificate of Competence in Assessing Properties for the HHSRS.
