Course programme

The High/Scope Trainer of Trainers Course is for people who wish to train others in the High/Scope Approach. The course is of particular relevance to organisations or partnerships who are seeking a cost-effective way to implement the Approach.

Endorsed Trainers are qualified to run High/Scope courses in social services, education, the independent and voluntary sectors and in a diverse range of settings. These include early years, pre-schools, family centres, after school clubs, creches, primary schools, special needs, drop-ins, assessment centres, family day care (childminders) and under threes.

Course duration is 35 days of training by our Consultant Trainers usually organised into seven weeks over an eight month period.

Endorsed Trainers have the ability to:

* Understand the High/Scope Curriculum
* Work effectively with practitioners and administrators to implement the curriculum
* Develop training materials and workshop procedures appropriate to their own settings
* Run High/Scope training courses for a range of settings
* Develop strategies for working effectively with agencies
* Develop competencies for monitoring programme effectiveness for children, staff and agencies
* The ability to offer High/Scope courses is an asset to the repertoire of in-house trainers, freelance consultants and college lecturers.

The course requires participants to:

* Engage actively in all aspects of the training process
* Complete assignments during and between training weeks which include maintaining a journal, developing skills in observation and feedback, planning and presenting workshops
* Train staff in an identified site during the period of the course
* Maintain training and support after the course ends and arrange for a staff consultant site visit within six months of the course concluding.

The High/Scope Approach will be most effective when there is systematic training and support available to practitioners over a period of time. Through training an endorsed trainer, organisations and partnerships can ensure that they have the means to develop and maintain high quality services to children and families using the High/Scope Approach.
