Course programme

Choosing a topic

To apply for the programme you must be able to clearly outline a topic to research and identify where it links to the expertise we have at the Business School. It is important that you spend some time exploring the research that we are involved with and whether your own research is likely to fit alongside this.

Look carefully at the research conducted within the research areas of the Business School across our multi-disciplinary research centres. You should also consider our research topics of interest and our academic staff profiles to identify whether your research interests fit within our areas of expertise.

Supervision and support

All postgraduate researchers are supervised by a team of two academic staff members.

Your supervisors are chosen based on their active research agenda and expertise in the chosen research topic and/or methodology.

There will be regular interaction between you and your supervisors, enabling you to meet the milestones established for successful completion of your research programme.

Training and Development

Newcastle University Business School is part of the North East Doctoral Training Centre. This is funded and accredited by the Economic and Social Research Council and jointly run by the universities of Newcastle and Durham.

The North East Doctoral Training Centre is a collaborative centre for world-class postgraduate research and training in the social sciences. It offers students a wealth of opportunities to work with leading researchers across a wide range of disciplines. You'll benefit from high-quality training and state-of-the-art resources at both universities.

Conferences

We encourage postgraduate researchers to attend conferences and present papers directly related to their research over the course of their study. For those without alternative income, the School provides limited resources to attend conferences or postgraduate training events. It is on condition that the event is relevant and beneficial for your research. Usually, this means that you are delivering a conference paper.
