Duration :Two years full time.
Who the Course is For:
The course aims to develop designers with the broad range of skills and knowledge needed to forge a career within the automotive industry. Vehicles and their design are changing at a rapid rate, driven by the continued evolution of the automotive industry. Graduates who can offer an exciting fusion of creative and technical abilities will be at the forefront of driving the future of vehicle design.
Assessment:
Modules are assessed using coursework assessments or formal qualifications. A combination of coursework and formal examinations is also an option.
Coursework is usually set during the semester. Examinations are set during an assessment period at the end of each semester.
Course Leads To:
The programme allows direct access to the BSc Hons in either Automotive Design or Product Design.
Entry Requirements:
An appropriate certificate in engineering or art equivalent to 120 UCAS points (AVCE, GNVQ, BTEC National Certificate or Diploma, and A/AS Level profile.
An Access to Higher Education or Bridging Certificate. Students who do not meet the entry requirements but have a history of industry experience will also be considered.
These together with those who have an appropriate trade qualification (City & Guilds/IMI) at level 2 or 3 will be required to complete a bridging course.
Content:
The first year of the course is common with Product Design. Students start to develop a broad view about design in general and a clearer prospective of their chosen area of specialisation. If appropriate, students may select any one of the three design courses at the end of the first year. The second year of the course develops creative design further, and introduces specialist automotive topics such as car body styling, driving interface, interior packaging, clay modelling, functional issues in automotive interior design, automotive manufacturing, safety, legislation and vehicle aerodynamics.
