Course programme

Information about the course

The course involves personal and professional development in ceramics including an understanding of the workings of the craft within the context of the current market.

The aim of the course is to provide a degree of professionalism and bridge the gap between 'student' and 'artisan'.

Course content

Students will use their advanced visual research and design study to develop their area of special interest.

They will explore their design, research, prepare and make ceramic pieces to a high standard. This includes personal expression to private commission and exhibitions of their work, which is often successfully sold. They will learn about marketing themselves and their products using creative computing techniques and business planning to guide their creative practice.

Visits to studios, museums and galleries form an important part of the course. Each year optional visits are offered in the UK and/or abroad.

Demonstrations by visiting potters add to the learning experience. In the past these included visits by the internationally known potters Will Levi Marshall, Jack Doherty, Ashley Howard and Dennis Farrell.
