Course programme

Join a vibrant history of art community

Throughout this unique programme, you work within a lively subject area at one of the UK’s most highly-rated research universities. You join a very large and active community of other History of Art Masters and research students. Your work is supported and guided by expert teaching staff who are all writing and publishing research, curating exhibitions, giving research papers and organizing conferences.

What will I be studying?

The programme is underpinned by two compulsory courses over the academic year, called Research Theories and Methods and The Cultures and Politics of Display. Around this, you take option courses ranging across Chinese and Islamic art, European art from Roman, Medieval, Renaissance and Modern times, right up to the most recent art being made in the UK and abroad today.

In the end, you will have strong research abilities, valuable in-the-job experience, a wide knowledge of art in its many contexts, and first-hand experience of some of the practices and concepts of museology and contemporary curating.

Potential new programme survey

We would like to hear your views on a potential new Masters in Medieval and Renaissance World Art and Cultures. Our survey will only take about 5 minutes to complete, and your answers will help inform the development of this exciting new programme.
