Course Information

Introduction

The recommended duration of training is a minimum of 2 years. At a suitable point in each candidates progress, they will be presented with an HNC Musical Theatre award approved by the Scottish Qualifications Authority.

Class hours and timetable

Students of the part-time course attend for two three hour sessions and one full day totalling 15 hours tuition per week. (Younger PTMT Students attend for 2 hours less - following an Elementary Course) Students commence their training in early August with year completion in late June. All students receive a comprehensive training featuring body conditioning, Ballet, tap, jazz, drama, ensemble voice, solo voice and performance class.

Students of the part-time MT Course (not Elementary students) receive a weekly private singing lesson developing their personal technique and performance repertoire. Elementary Students receive weekly smaller group classes typically in groups of 4-5 students focussing on good vocal / singing practice and musicality.

Assessment

Students are continually assessed within their class however, formal assessments take place in Spring with the issuing of a report and the opportunity for parents or the student to come in and discuss progress with staff.

Students must gain satisfactory results in all Assessed areas in order to proceed to the next stage of the Course and at a suitable stage in their personal development will be awarded an HNC Musical Theatre qualification approved by the Scottish Qualifications Authority.

Performance

An important part of the provision here at GAMTA is performance experience. Students of the Musical Theatre Courses are the central performers in panto at Glasgow's SECC Lomond Theatre either featuring in lead roles, as understudies or as production ensemble / dancers. They feature in their own Studio Showcase in the Spring Season part of the assessment procedure) and appear at Glasgow's SECC Clyde Auditorium in June in a Production Showcase.
