About the HND Animal Management programme
This course has been designed for anyone interested in pursuing a career working with animals. This may be to attain the qualification for work within the industry a a supervisory or management level or to enable access to further study. The course will provide practical skills required in the sector using specialist resources within the Institute's Animal House and Kennels. Methods of learning and teaching are designed to support students in becoming active members of a learning community. Students will be expected to work together in an informal environment as well as in formal classes where a culture of dignity, courtesy and mutual respect with staff and their peers is essential. A variety of methods will be used such as lectures, seminars and practical sessions.

Entry requirements 2016 entry: Applicants need 120 UCAS points from 3 A Levels, Level 3 Extended Diploma in Animal Management, Level 3 Diploma in Animal Management or Access to Higher Education Certificate. Applicants will also need GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above. Non academic entry: Applications are welcomed from individuals with extensive experience of working within the animal management sector and can evidence the enthusiasm, commitments and academic ability to complete an entry assignment. Where applicable if the above criteria is not held then we are able to recommend suitable pathways to support future progression on to HND Animal Management. All applicants may be requested to attend an interview and complete an entry assignment prior to being offered a place on the programme. What you will learn Year 1 Modules include: Animal Nutrition Production of Animal Management Ecology Animal Nursing Animal Health Biological Principles Animal Collections Animal Adaptations * Modules may be subject to change What Next Learners may progress onto other higher education qualifications such as relevant Foundation Degrees or undergraduate bachelor degrees following achievement of their HND. Learners may also progress into employment within the animal management sector. Possible career progression may include: Laboratory Technician Zoo Keeper Charitable Organisations Veterinary Nursing Assistant Conservation Programme Benefits Ample support and guidance from the tutors, who provide direction to relevant academic journals and literature. Lectures advise and discuss possible advances for future courses and careers. Enjoyable and supportive learning with small group sizes.
