KEY FEATURES
The aim of this course is to develop the competences required to be an effective member of a sports organisation, specialising in safe practices in exercise prescription, nutrition and fitness assessment as well as offering therapeutic skills to assist functional rehabilitation from injury. Year two of the course presents opportunities to work in a more clinic based environment, treating patients, developing treatment plans and providing physical therapies such as rehabilitation drills, taping techniques, electrotherapy and sports massage.
OTHER INFORMATION
The College runs a sports injury clinic and provides touchline support at many clubs and national events such as the UK Asian Football Games. Learners are taught by practitioners with a wealth of experience.
COURSE CONTENT
A selection of core units includes:
Applied Anatomy; Applied Physiology; Body Massage; Exercise Principles & Programming; First Aid in Sport; Sports Injury Pathology; Research Investigation; Sports Rehabilitation Principals; Professional Standards; Health Screening; Stretch Training; Nutrition for Sports Therapists; Clinical Assessment Techniques: Exercise Rehabilitation skills; Taping Techniques; Electrotherapy.

PROGRESSION
Learners can seek employment within private and public sports facilities or sports injury/rehabilitation clinics. Employment opportunties may exist with government health initiatives and on national sports development programmes. Self employment is an option for learners willing to set up their own sports clinc. Increasing opportunities are avalible for posts as research assistants and lecturers on Sports Therapy Programmes.
Learners can progress from the HND to Year 2 of degree programme in Sports Therapy at Central Lancashire, Chichester or Teeside Universities or to other degree programmes in related fields i.e. Sports Science.
