Course programme

The Centre For Homeopathic Education operates a three year full-time course.

The main portion of the teaching is held two days a week, three weeks per month over three terms from September through to June.

The days run from 10.00am-5.00pm

These take place at The Royal Homeopathic Hospital in Central London . The college provides spacious and comfortable teaching facilities all within easy reach of public transport.

Clinic attendance involves one full day a month. This begins in the last term of the First year and continues through until the Third year.

The course also includes supervision, home study time and tutorials.

The course is designed to create a dynamic and empowering learning environment for the students. Due to the nature of a full time course, students have consistent contact time with fellow students and staff, thereby establishing both a supportive and enjoyable educational process.

YEAR ONE

Building the right basis for a good start

The course begins with the First year; this year gives the student a vital and solid foundation in homeopathic principles, philosophies and methodologies.

Homeopathic remedy pictures (materia medica) form a central core to the First year syllabus, giving a holistic insight into the dis-ease process of the individual.

Students are shown how to apply case-taking skills to both acute and chronic cases. The Classical method is taught as the foundation for case analysis and prescribing, leading to more practically based methodologies later in the year.

The medical sciences curriculum runs concurrently with the homeopathic syllabus allowing integration between these two complementary areas.

We believe that practitioner development and group work are a vital part of the course. They encourage cohesive relationships within the class dynamic and generate the rapport skills necessary for relating to patients in clinic.

Clinical training begins in the last term of the First year at the Ainsworths pharmacy and enables the student to apply their theoretical knowledge to a practical application with patients.

In the clinical situation students expand their case-taking skills; learn to develop an understanding of the patient’s emotional history; receive and analyse symptoms and work on case management.

YEAR TWO

In-depth understanding of homeopathy

It is in the Second year that the course really starts to incorporate an integrated learning style of homeopathy, with the introduction of new methodologies, clinical skills and specialised treatment of specific diseases.

The syllabus encompasses a vast range of therapeutic remedies, herbal remedies and an introduction to energy systems and nutrition.

New styles of prescribing and more advanced methodologies are taught within the context of classical homeopathic philosophy. Materia medica, medical sciences, case-taking and practitioner development are expanded and consolidated this year leading to an in-depth understanding of both Classical and Practical homeopathy.

The student progresses in clinic to active case-taking, prescribing and case management under the supervision of the clinical director. In the Second year students begin supervision with an external supervisor that continues into the Third year.

YEAR THREE

Increased knowledge base
Middlesex University logo The Third year is focussed on giving the student all the tools necessary for practice, with strong attention to clinical skills, supervision, complex casework, case management, expanded materia medica, research skills and evolving reflective practice.

Homeopathic pharmacy shop Business skills and practice management are also an integral part in this final year. The student is exposed to a number of different complementary therapies such as Iridology, Cranial Sacral Therapy, Osteopathy, Acupuncture,Traditional Chinese Medicine and Flower Essences. Practitioner development in the Third year plays an important role in completing the transition from student to practioner.
