Do you have a passion for horses? This programme offers you the opportunity to train whilst working in an equine setting, such as a show jumping yard, racing yard or riding school. Most employment will include weekend working and you will be required to develop your knowledge and practical skills whilst at work.
What modules are covered?There are currently 3 pathways to choose from - Horse Care & Management, Horse Care, Management & Riding and Horse Care, Management & Breeding. All 3 pathways require the completion of the following mandatory units:
301 Receive a horse and carry out an initial assessment
302 plan diets and implement feeding regimes for horses
303 Monitor and maintain stocks of feed and bedding
304 Promote the health and well-being of horses
305 Deliver basic health care treatment to horses
306 Promote, monitor and maintain health, safety and security of the workplace
307 Manage your own resources
You will also be required to choose further optional units. These will depend on which pathway you choose to do.
What qualifications will I get?Level 3 Workbased Diploma in Horse Care
Level 3 Certificate in the Principles of Horse Care & Management
All qualifications will require apprentices to build separate portfolios of work, complete assignments and to pass a range of assessments at each stage. Exemption from some of the functional skills is given for suitable GCSE passes.
What is the entry process?Submit an application form and attend an interview.
What are the entry requirements?Minimum qualifications: Full level 2
GCSE grade C Maths and English or equivalent.
Successful completion of either the Level 2 Apprenticeship or full time college course to Level 2.
What else do I need to know?You can only complete an apprenticeship if you are employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week at National Minimum Wage for apprenticeships. Please see link for more details. www.apprenticeships.org.uk
Students will also be required to attend College one day per week.
What can I do after this course?Students may find that this qualification will allow them to progress in their present employment or may consider the opportunity to start their own business.
