The career possibilities are wide ranging from Sports and leisure to Medical Sales, Medical training, Pharmacy and Physiotherapy.
Most students go on to study in Higher Education where the choice of degree options gives plenty of scope for employment

Course Content

Year 1
AS Unit 221: Molecules, Blood and Gas Exchange

This unit studies the heart, circulation and lungs.Its looks at practical applications such as blood transfusions, blood screening and blood products.

AS Unit 222:Growth, Development and Disease

This unit includes cell division and its practical applications such as use of stem cells detecting and treating cancer, foetal development and monitoring growth and development in children. It uses TB and HIV/AIDS as examples of infections diseases and coronary heart disease, cancer, asthma and type 2 diabetecs as examples of non-infectious diseases.
AS Unit 223: Internally assessed practical skills

Year 2
A2 Unit 224: Energy, Reproduction and Population

This unit looks at the biochemistry of Respiration, long term effects of exercise on the body and human impact on the environment. It also provides an understanding of human reproduction, techniques for assisted reproduction and the need to make informed and ethical decisions.
Genetics, Control and Ageing
This unit considers recent advances in gentics and their applications; the control of the body's internal conditions by the nervous system, hormone system and the kidney; the use of drungs and transplants are linked to these body systems. The effect of ageing on the body is studied.
A2 Unit F226: Extended Investigation in Human Biology
