Course programme

This course will suit students who are just entering into the pre hospital care sector or existing Emergency Care Assistants /assistant practitioner level staff wishing to turn their existing qualification into the industry standard recognised Edexcel BTEC Level 3 IHCD qualification. This award is the minimum requirement to work unsupervised as a qualified member of an ambulance in the UK, and is the only technician award recognised by the NHS Ambulance Service Trusts. There are no formal entry requirements for this QCA level 3 award, however we must be satisfied that you stand a reasonable chance of passing the rigorous assessments throughout the course. You will also be required to have an enhanced CRB check and be in good health with the ability to carry out strenuous handling and moving procedures. The course will be eight weeks in duration beginning on 2nd August 2010. There will be 3 periods of summative assessment that must be passed in order to achieve the IHCD EMT award. You must attend a minimum of 90% of the course in order to satisfy the IHCD requirements and then undertake 750 hours of supervised practice in emergency ambulances. Your supervised practice must be carried out with an IHCD EMT or HPC Paramedic and you will be required to keep a portfolio of evidence, which will undergo verification after you have completed the 750 hours.
