Course programme

Structure and assessment

Each day will run from approximately 9:30am to 5pm.

The days will involve seminar-based teaching and learning with the support of a tutor from the Implant team.

You'll be expected to read and appraise selected papers from the scientific literature related to implant dentistry. There will be a tutor-led group discussion regarding the merits of each paper and the relative implications for evidence-based practice.

Following this, you'll be expected to bring cases from your own practice for group discussion. The cases will need to be presented with sufficient information to merit full evaluation and should be presented with a similar format to examination cases.

There will then be discussion of practical issues and any other implant-related topics.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the study club, you'll:

  • understand the appraisal of classic and contemporary implant literature and its application in evidence-based practice
  • understand the steps in treatment planning, clinical execution of implant-based treatment and the management of complications that arise within clinical practice
