Do you have the basics in photography but really feel you would like to produce more interesting images? Producing work that is truly one's own and developing a personal aesthetic is an on-going process for any photographer. This course will provide a series of projects and challenging briefs for you to explore both on and off site that are designed to enhance both your aesthetic and technical abilities, whilst helping to foster a greater critical awareness of the medium itself.
The course begins with an informal discussion that focuses on each participant’s previous work and influences. Then by taking part in a series of slideshow lectures and workshops you will develop an understanding of the principal techniques and picture making skills employed by a range of photographers throughout the mediums history.
Topics covered will include:
- How different photographers make use of light
- How composition is used to enhance or distort meaning
- Studio lighting set-ups for portraiture & still-life
- Digital editing workflow & ink-jet printing
- B&W darkroom Printing
- Showcasing your work through photo-books or social media
The slideshow presentations also form the basis for discussing various photographic genres, such as Landscape and Street Photography, and act as the starting point for the assignment briefs. The feedback sessions that follow are intended to help you come to terms with the intricate aspects of editing and sequencing images as you set about building a coherent body of work.
Who should take this course?
- Students that have a passion for photography, that want to gain technical confidence and develop their own voice
- Anyone that has done a 'Beginners' level course and would like to explore the subject further
Level: Some experience required
Please note: This course is for students aged 18 and older
