Course programme

Fire and safety training courses are available to suit all types of businesses throughout the UK. Utilising the skills and safety culture of the Fire Service, our training instructors are both nationally qualified operational fire fighters and approved training assessors.

Course Aims

To provide delegates with the opportunity to practise in realistic training environments and demonstrate skills appropriate to their role within the company emergency response team.

Duration

1 day (5-6 hours instruction)

Delegates

Auxiliary Fire Teams, Industrial Fire Teams, delegates involved in fire safety duties of high risk and first response.

Course content

• Understand the importance of safety and the importance of PPE
• Describe and explain the chemistry of combustion
• Understand the fundamentals of fire
• Demonstrate a practical understanding of the terms flashover, backdraft and fire gas explosion
• Confirm the theory by observing a fire growth from the early stage to the flashover period
• Be able to perform different branch techniques
• Be able to perform extinguishing techniques inside a building or compartment

Training Objectives

At the end of the course delegates will be assessed and given the opportunity to demonstrate their competence in utilising fire fighting equipment as part of a fire fighting team. The professional approach to the training will enable the delegate to prepare fire fighting equipment in readiness for fire fighting duties and demonstrate their ability to use the equipment safely and correctly.

They will be able to compare the performance of different tactics and techniques in relation to fire spread and damage limitation and identify the importance of leadership, communication and teamwork whilst appreciating the importance of fire team safety and the maintenance of equipment.
