The Innovator Catalyst is an intensive 8-day course being hosted by Climate-KIC, Europe's largest public-private initiative in the area of climate change mitigation. The course brings together participants from across Europe to focus on the challenges of reducing the carbon footprint of the built environment. It is intended for a range of professionals and organisations from both regional governments and the private sector. These include: Procurement or Estate Managers in businesses and housing associations; environmental and housing tenant Non-Government Organisations (NGOs); technology companies operating in the area of building and energy management; Energy and Sustainability Managers; energy provider companies; construction companies; and research institutes and policy makers involved in energy-saving programmes. The course will rely on case studies provided by participants in order to ensure that the programme is rooted in real-world experience and application. It will also rely on coaching from two experienced transition coaches; interesting site visits; breakout sessions and workshops; presentations and seminars from representatives of businesses (such as Carillion), environmental organisations, research institutes, local councils and housing authorities. The timing of the Innovator Catalyst is also important as it gives an opportunity to reflect on systemic change in the built environment just as the new European Structural Investment Funds are launched. This gives participants the opportunity to build their ideas into future ERDF-funded activities and make links to other EU funds as well. Upon completion of the Innovator Catalyst, participants would develop key capabilities for driving change towards low-carbon buildings in complex and multi-actor environments. They would also build professional networks and connections and become exposed to international approaches which will encourage innovative thinking and sharing of best practices.
