The Intense Make-up Course for Media Make-up arms you with the essential skills you need to become a successful, working make-up artist in television, film, theatre and fashion.

As the name suggests, it’s intensive, creative, in-depth as well as practical combining the need to achieve a high-level of proficiency in all aspects of make-up artistry. Beginners are totally welcome as no previous experience is necessary.

Each BAMM tutor is an experienced professional, actively working within the industry, making BAMM the unique place to pick up crucial make-up skills and arm you with the knowledge you need to succeed.

The programme lasts 15 weeks, with each module taking one or two weeks to complete.

BAMM classes run from Monday to Friday from 9.30am – 4.30pm, with an hour for lunch.

WEEK ONE - Back to Basics

The basic principles of make-up

Your professional kit & tools

Your health & safety responsibilities

Make-up application for day, evening, bridal, high definition television/film and fashion

WEEK TWO – Airbrushing for HD (high definition) & Camouflage Make-up

The Airbrushing module includes a separate Certificate of Completion, as requested by most film and TV studios

Camouflage make-up – for concealing tattoos, blemishes and scarring. We’re very proud to have on board Changing Faces for their excellent advice and skills

WEEKS THREE & FOUR – Facial Hair & Wig Knotting

Character and period facial hair

Knotting and styling facial hair

Application, maintenance and cleaning facial hair

WEEK FIVE – Working with Wigs

Making a template and measuring for a foundation

Wig blocking, setting and fitting

Working with real hair, lace-fronted wigs, preparing and de-rigging

Styling wigs, including period work

Individual project assessment for your portfolio

and Working In Theatre…learn the fundamentals of working in the theatre. How is a West End show put together and who does what? Learn the meaning of terms like ‘stage left’ and ‘stage right’ and hear how live productions function as well as what’s expected of you, the professional make-up artist.

WEEKS SIX & SEVEN – Period Looks with Make-up and Hair

A brief visual history of time and the relevant make ups used through the ages – from the 18th Century to the 1980′s

Research, refer and create period-looks for use in film, TV and theatre

WEEK EIGHT – Character Make Up

Ageing and gender-changing make up for film, TV and theatre

Create an individual character project for your portfolio

WEEK NINE – Fashion & Hair

Make-up perfection for the fashion industry

On-trend make-up and current hair products

Hair styling for period work and fashion

Heat styling using a full range of tools

WEEK TEN – Body Painting & Body Airbrushing

Create body art with a range of specialised techniques and products

Create and research various casualty effects to include burns, wounds, swellings, bruises and scars

Create illness, skin disorders and diseases

How to fill a silicone mould with probondo

WEEK FIFTEEN – Script break down, Continuity & Designing

Ever wondered how a film or television drama is put together? Or perhaps why you sometimes see continuity errors? You’ll be guided through the production process from start to finish and taught exactly how, as a make-up artist, you break down scripts to ensure continuity. You’ll receive demonstrations and real scripts to work with. You’ll learn the terms used on set, job roles and other key elements involved in live television

Working in the Industry

Now you have the fundamental practical skills, what’s next? The final part of this Intense Make-up Course for Media Make-up helps you to get started in the industry. BAMM tutors will pass on their wisdom and their tips on becoming a successful make-up artist, reveal potential earnings within different fields, guide you on how to price-up a job and how to invoice correctly. Finally, BAMM provides you with all the information and contacts you’ll need to set you up for the start of your career as a professional make-up artist and proud BAMM graduate.
