Course review:
There are currently over 3500 Art and Design Degree courses in the UK and knowing which one might be right for you can be difficult to decipher. To gain entry onto a degree it is normal practice to complete an Art and Design Foundation so you can gain experience in all aspects of Art and Design to help make that choice easier. The tutors on a foundation are experienced and well informed to help make that decision the right one for you. But this adds on an extra year of study to a normal 3 year degree. What happens if you want to take a gap year or find some work experience in a particular field? The Intensive Foundation Portfolio is the answer, providing a shorter programme of study that still offers the grounding across a diversity of art and design fields.
On the course, you will choose your specialism and build an exceptional portfolio in preparation for university interviews. The year group will be much smaller than your average foundation course, with a ratio of 1 tutor to 12 students providing a greater focus on your individual needs. We will support you through your UCAS applications, and assist you with writing your CV and cover letters to help you find relevant work experience. The course will culminate in an exhibition showcasing your work. The focus will be on developing the skills and ideas that will enable you to continue working independently once you graduate. You will leave with a bank of projects to further explore within your chosen field. The portfolio will be your primary focus and you will be encouraged to work outside of lecturing hours to maintain the high standards expected from all Oxford Brookes students.
