About this course
You will learn how to create innovative designs, think in a lateral way, critically reflect on projects and learn skills that reflect your personal interests and career aspirations.Our Curriculum offers a culturally diverse approach to leaning and embraces the wider spectrum of architecture and architectural thinkers.
You will have the opportunity to arrange a year-long work placement in between your second and third years. This gives you a real-world experience to prepare you for your future career. Past students have secured placements with companies such as YourStudio, Mynt Design and Fosters and Partners. Other students have completed placements abroad in Dubai, Melbourne, LA and New Zealand. As part of your course there are also opportunities to study abroad through the Erasmus programme. We have partnerships with universities in Barcelona, Prague, Lyon and Kuala Lumpur among others.
This must include at least 64 points from two A levels, or equivalent BTEC National qualifications (to include a relevant subject such as Art or Design). For example:BBC at A Level.DMM in BTEC Extended Diploma.A combination of qualifications, which may include AS levels, EPQ and general studies.

You will build a portfolio of work over your degree, preparing you for a rewarding career in an exciting industry.
How you learn
This course is part of the Sheffield Institute of Arts — our creative community within Sheffield Hallam.We aim to provide you with an understanding of design culture and design practice through live projects and potential work placements.

You will work on live projects throughout your degree where you can intellectually and creatively develop ideas and your technical abilities. You will have the chance to work on socially driven community projects and commercial opportunities. In the past students have designed and developed projects around homelessness, theatre, exhibitions, galleries, student accommodation and luxury spas.Our students also exhibit at the Free Range national design exhibition in London's Brick Lane.
Field trips
You will visit cultural centres to see design and architecture in the wider world, which are covered by your course fees. Previous trips have included London and Edinburgh. You also visit places such as Milan, Barcelona and the Venice Architecture Biennale (additional fees apply).
Networking opportunities
We have links with commercial partners and local design agencies, and we have an exciting lecture series which is delivered by external practitioners from various design practices within the UK, offering industrial contacts for possible future placements.
Competitions
You have the opportunity to gain exposure by entering national and international design competitions such as the RSA Student Design Awards.
